The Company
Harratts, a family run motor group with 11 dealerships in the Yorkshire region, including 4 Volvo dealerships in Leeds, Sheffield, Wakefield and Huddersfield. Established in 1966, the Group has an average annual turnover of £175,000 and employs 300 staff. Harratts is a company that prides itself on offering the very best customer service and is able to boast a high retention in staff and customer loyalty”
The Need
Managing Director, Shaun Harratt recognised that to continue providing first class customer service and developing long-lasting client relationships his senior team needed to offer a compelling vision to every one of the firm’s employees. In a recession, the usual attitude is to pull back on investing in sraff, which leads to a demotivated environment but Shaun knew that in order to face the challenges ahead, it was the exact time to provide his staff with human relationship training to equip them with the skills required to lead them out of the recession. Shaun also recognised that he was not as inspiring and motivational as he knew he needed to be and so included himself in the search for personal development.
The Recommendation
Managing Director and Senior Managers participated in the Inspirational Leadership Programmes throughout 2009 which equipped them with the skills to set a new direction for the future, to create a culture of leadership and high performance, learn how to alter ingrained behaviours and have the courage to take on new business challenges and manage change. A Customer Care Development Programme was then rolled out in 2010 for all staff customer facing staff.. The company’s committment has seen 175 empoyee receive personal training valued at £1,000 per individual.
The Bottom Line
In spite of the recent difficult years for the car industry, Harratts bucked the industry average and more than consolidated its position as the second largest Volvo vendor in the UK with an increase of 12%. On scooping Awards for Best Service Technician and UK’s Advanced Apprentice, Harratts were congratulated on creating a fantastic learning environment that really brings out the best in people.
“The company’s commitment to investing in people, rather than just to seek to drive sales is reflected in the holistic nature of the 2inspire training programmes and we know it will be of great benefit to all individuals and the company as a whole” commented Shaun Harratt.

Positive Changes at Platinum Print |
|
As I was moving in my business and personal circles I kept hearing the name ‘2inspire’ linked to challenging the people in business to change what they did not like was happening in their lives, both business and personal. As a result I decided to speak to Rob Northfield to enquire how a Development Programme could improve individuals in my business that have, in some cases, over 18 years experience with Platinum Print, including myself.

Leadership Success at City Link |
|
Target Express was formed in 1982 by Ray Griffiths, Iain Sharp and Peter Neumark, entrepreneurs who had a strong belief the market needed a parcel delivery service that did what it said on the tin. During the following 19 years the organisation grew at an astonishing rate to £125 million in 2001. By this time the company was being led by Chief Executive Paul Murray and myself as Chief Operating Officer. The organisation underwent major changes whereby we strongly believed in people development whereas previous Directors hadn't seent the improtance. Due to lack of belief in people and the development of its key personnel Target Express began to have challenges it hadn't previously forseen.
